What Are Sliding Windows?
Sliding windows (also known as slider windows) can be described as double-hung windows placed on their side. They can open from either the right or the left side to offer a broader view of your surroundings and come with various customization options.
Looking to Install Sliding Windows?
Sliding windows are versatile enough to look great in any style of home in PA. While they may seem easy enough to install on their own, it’s still best to call in the experts to ensure nothing goes wrong. The slightest mishap or imperfection when it comes to installation can lead to drafty windows that will require frequent maintenance. Let the Window Guardians team handle your slider windows; we’ll get it right the first time!
The Advantages of Sliding Windows
There are loads of benefits to opting for sliding windows, including:
Minimal Maintenance
Sliding windows consist of fewer parts than conventional windows, making them both a low-maintenance and cost-effective choice for many residential homes.
Durability
Even the best springs and pulleys wear down over time. Because sliding windows don’t rely on such components to function, they are more durable than conventional windows, meaning you don’t have to replace sliding windows as often as you would other styles. Furthermore, most sliding windows use window glazing, thus adding to their durability.
Energy-Efficiency
The glazing on sliding windows enhances insulation and energy efficiency, giving you the benefit of a greener home and lower energy bills over time.
Easy to Use
Sliding windows open and close with minimal effort required, as they are not heavy and glide along the window frame from side to side instead of up and down. To use a sliding window, all you need to do is release the latch and slide the window open!
The Drawbacks of Sliding Windows
The only major disadvantage of sliding windows comes with cleaning them. Although washing and cleaning the inside of these windows is easy, cleaning the outside can be trickier. Unlike other kinds of windows that can be tilted towards you when cleaning, sliding windows only move from side to side.
Other Facts & Questions
How can I clean my sliding windows?
Unless you can easily reach your windows from the outside, your next best bet is to remove your windows from their sliders entirely. You can easily do this by lifting them upward from the slider and applying the appropriate cleaner with a microfiber cloth.
What is the standard size of a sliding window?
The standard sliding window widths are 36”, 48”, 60”, 72”, and 84” wide. The windows themselves typically measure 36½”, 47½”, 59½”, 71½”, and 83½” inches wide to allow for installing. Standard heights are 24”, 36”, 48”, and 60”.
What should I do if my sliding windows start to stick?
If your window ever becomes difficult to slide back and forth, lubricants are available that offer an easy fix. Simply get a silicone-based lubricant at your local home improvement store, apply the lubricant to the window tracks, weatherstripping, and jamb liner, and open and shut the window a few times to apply evenly.
